Sustainable Sculpture: James Doran-Webb’s Driftwood Animals

Philippines-based British sculptor James Doran-Webb creates incredibly lifelike animal sculptures from scraps of wood. “It’s in my core to see the potential in what other people might term as waste or discarded material,” he says. “I’ve always been drawn to reusing material which other people throw away.” Beyond the found materials he uses, what especially intrigues me is the feeling of movement and conflict he breathes into his sculptures, many of which focus on moments of survival in an animal’s life. Very powerful.
