Robot Turns Recycled Fridges into Furniture

Pour in a bucket of recycled plastic, and a giant robot arm gets to work building a chair or table one layer at a time. Dirk Vander Kooij’s invention, which he calls “Endless,” is like a giant 3D printer, only it works much faster and uses plastic bits culled from old refrigerators rather than virgin materials. The furniture itself has a unique layered look and can be customized by adding pigment. It’s an interesting use for discarded materials—and it’s fun to watch.
