Organic Modernism: Using Nature as a Medium

Decaying leaves, pressed flowers, bleached bone—these are among the materials with which Owen Mortensen creates his art. A self-described “eco artist,” he juxtaposes the natural textures of his organic materials with a clean, modernist aesthetic of geometric shapes and repeating patterns. I respect his ability to work with the simplicity and beauty of natural elements.
